GSTAAD

While Gstaad has been a playground for European royalty, international jet-setters and celebrities for a century, it is the landscape of the Saanenland that has the most allure. The postcard-perfect scenery is what most people who have never been to Switzerland imagine it as being, with gingerbread chalets, rolling hills filled with wildflowers and the sounds of cowbells, and snow-capped peaks in every direction. The legendary hotels and hospitality of the Gstaad resorts have kept visitors happy and coming back for 100 years, and a whole new level of luxury and service has marked the 21st century there.

With 9 distinctly different ski areas in the Gstaad Mountain Rides region, there is something for every taste. From the family friendly Wispile right from the center of town, to the groomed piste paradises of Schönried, Zweisimmen, and Saanenmöser, to the steeper off-piste runs in Gsteig and Glacier 3000, there is no shortage of diverse descents in the Saanenland Region. Another great attribute is the gentle rolling terrain right in Gstaad, which makes for a great introductory skitouring experience. And heli-skiers and alpinists will appreciate the access here as well to some of the best terrain in the Bernese Oberland. Every resort boasts a wide selection of sun-drenched mountain terraces and restaurants to enjoy the views and an excellent lunch before returning to town.

In the summer and fall, Gstaad and the Saanenland offer incredible hiking and biking through the bucolic landscape. Long-revered as the epitome of Swiss scenery, every day is like a technicolor fairy-tale.  And with the Golden Pass scenic train stopping in the Saananland en-route from Lucerne to Montreux, you can always hop aboard for comfortable return journey to Gstaad, or head all the way to Lac Leman for an afternoon in the Lavaux vineyards.
