The sheer diversity of the Alps, whether landscape, cultures, languages, or history, all have a profound effect on the culinary traditions of every region. Rustic mountain cuisine, adapted from the local products as a means of necessity, have evolved to a level of gastronomic acclaim, yet remained simple and authentic. Here, the word “typical” is far from mundane, but instead a window into the soul of the region you are in – which may change with a passage into an adjacent valley, whether by skis, by foot, or by bike.
At Epic Europe we love discovering the different traditions found between our favorite regions of Switzerland, Italy, and France, and the endless variations on similar themes, whether it is the local cheeses, wines, wild game, or eau de vie. The passion of the local farmers and producers for their culinary traditions is infectious, and it is a pleasure to introduce our guests and friends to these local characters and their products.
While we have several trips and itineraries that are focused on the tastes and flavors of the Alps and beyond, it is always possible to build in opportunities to experience the local agriculture, food, and drink that complement the terroir on any trip.
