Zermatt, as one of the original destinations in the Alps to offer hotel rooms during winter, laid the groundwork for every ski resort to follow in its footsteps. With the winter opening of the Gornergrat Train in 1928, the idea of lift-accessed skiing really took off, and the resort has been at the forefront of ambitious lift design and technology. It is, quite simply, the most outrageous ski area in the world.
With four distinct ski “domains”, there’s a range of terrain for every skier. From long, perfectly-groomed pistes on Gornergrat and Sunnegga / Rothorn, to the high-alpine runs off the Klein Matterhorn, to sunny cruisers on the Italian side in Cervinia, you’ll never have to ski the same run twice. We recommend selecting a different part of the domain each day and getting to know the ski runs, restaurants, and characters that make this one of the most diverse resorts in the world. For off-piste skiing, Zermatt has massive potential via the lift-accessed Höhtalli / Stockhorn region, but we always recommend hiring a mountain guide.
Lunch on the slopes in Zermatt / Cervinia isn't optional - it is the most important part of the day. With over 95 on-mountain restaurants between all 4 domains, there's no shortage of choice, but just a matter of where you're skiing, and if you can get into the right one. We'll handle the details, from first thing in the morning until you kick off your boots after aprés, and be sure you find the best snow, lunch, and anything else you could imagine.
