The Swiss Christmas Idyll usually involves cozy wooden chalets dripping in snow, and skiing on the aforementioned snow until the early sun goes down. Alas when you don’t have any snow to speak of, ice skating on black ice in the Engadin Valley may just be an equally wonderful substitute. @ Lej da Champfèr, Engadin/St. Moritz.

-Hans Christian Andersen, “The Snowman”
