August 1st is the day that the people of Switzerland celebrates being Swiss - fiercely independent and at the same time neutral - not exactly European, but more so than anything else...and we celebrate along with them, by enjoying the uniquely and unabashedly Swiss Alps, in all their glory. Breakfast pancakes with the first blueberries and raspberries of the summer to start off the morning. A big ride up to the alpine, and across the face of Mont Rogneux on some recently-restored singletrack, a picnic in the sun, and a dip in a turquoise lake before the huge 1800m descent. Followed up by a BBQ, bonfire, and fireworks, you can’t squeeze much more out of a day.
