Well, it wasn’t as fast as Alberto Contador did it in 2009, but the Peleton once again climbed the Verbier switchbacks to finish a major stage race, this time in the Tour de Suisse. On a less-than-perfect day (in pouring rain), Franck Schleck suffered a crushing defeat in the final 100m from Rui Costa, after a ride from Italy, up and over the Simplon Pass, down the Rhône Valley, and finishing in Verbier. Once again, the world has seen the validity of the road that we train on all year long. Hopefully this will be a routine stop for Grand Tours for years to come.
