Just as the month-long cold snap finally broke, we got a dusting of fresh snow and a stunning bluebird day, so we jumped in the van and headed to Chamonix for the day with some old friends from Jackson Hole, and mountain guide Liz Smart.
The “normal” Vallée Blanche route off the Aiguille du Midi tram is an experience that every skier will remember for the rest of their lives - from the tram ride itself, to the ice cave approach to the arête, and the long ski out with hanging glaciers and seracs and impossibly-jagged peaks. Mind-blowing visuals, and a long, cruisy run (as long as you follow the guide and stay out of crevasses!) to enjoy the views. A must for every first-time Alps skier, on a day to remember.
