NIRA ALPINA 4*+

Surlej - St. Moritz

The Nira Alpina hotel, in the Swiss resort of St. Moritz at the foot of Mt. Corvatsch, is designed for independent, nomadic travellers. They offer an alternative, more authentic experience, putting pleasure before protocol and fun before formality. And they put you in the heart of the mountains. In winter, ski out / ski in. In summer, start your hiking or biking at 1870 metres. Any time, find sanctuary in our Nira Spa. Devoted to pleasure – and fast access to the pistes and paths – Nira Alpina provides a new, more exciting approach to the Engadin.

Corvatsch is the symbol of the Alps of the Upper Engadin. With a dry, sunny climate, the mountain has year-round appeal. In winter, its slopes offer by far the most challenging skiing in St. Moritz, with 120 kilometres of groomed ski runs and 180 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails. In summer, high-altitude walks are easily accessible by taking the Corvatsch cable car to Piz Corvatsch, where many hiking trails begin. The Corvatsch hotel, with its direct link to the cable car, is the perfect base to explore the region's rugged terrain.

ROOMS: Nira Alpina offers 70 luxury rooms, including deluxe rooms and suites. All rooms and suites feature a large terrace or balcony and panoramic windows overlooking the Engadin mountains. Inside, the spacious accommodation at the Surlej hotel is neither ostentatiously glitzy, nor traditionally folksy. Natural materials such as Swiss Spruce, Italian stone and suede are used and hi-tech amenities include a flat-screen TV showing 87 channels, an iPod docking station and free Wi-Fi. Each modern granite bathroom has a deep bath and waterfall shower.

FOOD & DRINKS: St. Moritz restaurants are world-renowned, and at Nira Alpina they serve world flavours to satisfy the appetites of worldly travellers. A typical meal might well include classic favourites from Thailand, India, Italy and Japan – a far cry from most Engadin restaurants. Taking a cue from their surroundings, the Nira Alpina cuisine is natural and fresh, with most ingredients farmed, caught, raised or bred within a few kilometres. Service is efficient and relaxed, delivered with unfussy charm. At Nira Alpina we prefer attentive, friendly care to rigid formality.

Shining by day and night, Stars is foodie heaven. On the top floor, with panoramic views of the lakes and mountains, Stars stands out in the St. Moritz constellation. It’s the venue for breakfast and dinner. The evening menu, featuring impeccably prepared international cuisine, takes you on a tour of the world’s culinary hotspots. International Classics such as Salmon Tataki, Crabcake, Entrecote of Swiss Prime Beef and Fregola Sarda are accompanied by sincere service with a dash of informality. The Trattoria serves typical Italian dishes. The authentic stubli surroundings, with natural stone floor, pine panelling and chunky wooden furniture, are just as traditional and cozy.

The Nira Alpina Bistro, near the hotel Reception, serves simple food cooked in an open kitchen. Featuring healthy options and kids’ favourites, the dishes are prepared quickly and carefully. On sunny days (which are most days) dine out on the terrace and admire the alpine view.

From apple strudel to “Zopf”, the traditional Swiss bread... Nira Alpina has its own bakery and bread and pastries are being freshly baked every morning. Their enticing aroma will lead you to our in-house bakery. For a crisp and crunchy start to the day, call in for alpine bread or a Swiss chocolate croissant, then come back later for a raspberry and vanilla turnover or an apple lattice pastry. Their fabulous cupcakes are always in demand, so stock up before you head for the cable car.

SPA & WELLNESS: The Nira Spa by Pure Altitude experience goes beyond physical revitalisation to include all the elements of holistic, stress-free living. You'll feel total renewal as you rediscover tranquillity through the nurturing touch of their therapists’ expert, caring hands. From the relaxation room to the well-equipped gym, from the sauna to the whirlpool, you'll find a sanctuary devoted to physical and mental wellbeing. The tranquil Nira Spa by Pure Altitude has a relaxation room with coloured mood lighting, a steam room, a sauna and a vast whirlpool with an underwater relaxation bed as well as five large treatment rooms. After a sauna, cool off under the striking mosaic-lined, colour-changing fountain, complete with four showers, including two cold waterfalls.

LOCATION: Nira Alpina is perched at the highest point in the small village of Surlej, just five kilometres from St. Moritz. Unlike a normal St. Moritz hotel, or even a Silvaplana hotel, they provide ski in-ski out access, as Nira Alpina is connected to the Corvatsch cable car station via a private walkway. You can ascend to 3300 metres, the highest point in the ski domain, in just fifteen minutes. In summer, the adjoining cable car leads to spectacular high-altitude hiking and biking trails. Nira Alpina offers complimentary transfers to and from the train station in St. Moritz, on request and availability.
