THE DOLDER GRAND 5*

Zurich

Towering above Lake Zurich, the historic castle-like Dolder Grand has been reinvented to form a luxury-class city resort. The 113-year-old spired “Curhaus” reopened in 2008 after a four-year, 443 million CHF renovation by renowned London architects Foster and Partners. The extensive project added two new modern wings and colorful art by Dalí, Miró, Haring, and Murakami. Andy Warhol’s 33-foot Big Retrospective Painting hangs above the front desk.

The hotel's elevated location, between the pulsating life of the city and a refreshingly natural green zone, provides a magnificent view of the city of Zurich, the lake and the Alps.

ROOMS: 173 spacious rooms and suites with city, lake and mountain views.

SPA: A highlight of the hotel is the new 4,000-square-metre spa. The winding stone walls that begin in the landscape continue inside to frame a canyon-like space for the pool. In some areas the walls are perforated to allow sunlight to filter in, and provide a dynamic play of light and shadow while maintaining absolute privacy. Geothermal heat pumps beneath the spa contribute to the efficient energy strategy.

FOOD AND DRINK: “The Restaurant” offers fresh and innovative gourmet cuisine ,18 GaultMillau points and two Michelin stars. chef Heiko Nieder blends local and exotic flavors (some from the Dolder garden) harmoniously for a pure taste, in what has been described as culinary poetry. In the summer the terrace is open, with views across the city of Zurich.

LOCATION: Near but far, within the city limits, but secluded atop the exclusive Zürichberg, a hill overlooking the downtown and Lake Zurich. From the main train station, you can take the No. 3 tram to Römerhof and the Dolderbahn funicular.

Highlights:

  • Luxury 5 star hotel & spa Zurich
  • Chef Heiko Nieder, whose talents have earned the hotel’s restaurant two Michelin stars & 18 Gault Millau points - the most decorated chef in Zurich
  • The Dolderbahn cog railway, historic funicular takes guests from the Hotel to the city center
  • The “Epicure” food festival September, hosted by the Dolder Grand and top European chefs
