The history of hospitality in Zermatt runs deep, and with so many classic Belle Epoque hotels and renowned restaurants, it is hard to make a mark. Enter Heinz Julen - local artist, designer, architect, and hotelier who has set the standard for alpine modernity, by mixing surprising elements of old and new amongst his own furniture designs and artwork.
The chalet is based on an old Valais house dating from the 1940’s, which Heinz has modernized and extended by two stories, in line with the original nature of the building. This extension has been constructed exclusively from local larch, and designed to include large areas of glass, providing a spectacular 360 degree panoramic view over the village and the Matterhorn. The Backstage Chalet has 5 double bedrooms, and an open living, dining and kitchen space under the exposed roof gables. All the furniture and furnishings have been developed and manufactured in the Heinz Julen atelier in Zermatt.
WELLNESS: The chalet includes a spectacular whirlpool - a fascinatingly small feat of engineering, which is hydraulically lifted above the roof. In addition, the chalet also possesses a sauna; additionally the infrastructure of the Backstage Hotel, including spa, cinema, etc., is available to you free of charge.
FOOD & DRINK: In the winter months, the Backstage Chalet is sold catered, including a professional staff, daily breakfast & housekeeping, afternoon tea and cakes, catered dinner on 5 nights, plus one special dinner as VIP guests at Heinz’s restaurant “After Seven”.
LOCATION: The chalet is just five minutes' walk from the hotel, situated in a quiet residential district in the centre of Zermatt, and at the same time centrally located in relation to the cable cars to the respective skiing resorts.
