Artist Heinz Julen’s original architectural masterpiece, the Hotel Couer des Alpes “Garni” (B&B) is a true piece of art. Accessed by an elevator blasted through the cliffs, the unique style combines traditional Swiss charm with modern details - the perfect representation of tourism meeting the demands for the 21st century, while preserving Swiss cultural heritage.
Owned and operated by Heinz’s sister Leni and her husband Thomas Müller-Julen, the service is warm and attentive, and the hotel staff extremely welcoming and helpful, creating a loyal following of returning guests (book well in advance!).
SPA & WELLNESS: Luxury pool, hammam, caldarium, “dream shower”, Bio-sauna, fitness room, Kneipp bath, and outdoor whirlpool with view of the Matterhorn. Massages, therapies and special treatments are available with advance booking.
RESTAURANTS AND BAR: No restaurant, but an exquisite lounge area surrounding an open fireplace where you can enjoy the superb Swiss breakfast, light snacks or drinks in the evening.
LOCATION: Perched on a steep hill above town, but still in the heart of Zermatt and surrounded by its unique mountains. Elevator access through the rock, for those who prefer convenience over exercise.
SKY APARTMENT: Located on top of the recently-built second house, and accessible using an incredible side-sliding elevator (actually, a cable car disguised as a high tech elevator) and then a second lift straight into the living room. Comprised of three bedrooms, each with its own special character; located underneath the rooftop, accessible through a glass and cast iron stairway. Our favorite is the top bedroom with glass ceiling, for an amazing view of the stars and moon above the Matterhorn.
