Europe’s highest luxury hotel, the Riffelalp Resort is a secluded escape located at more than 2200 meters, far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Despite its isolated location, there is no lack of luxury and comfort. It is truly a 5-star hotel. The attentive staff discretely attends to your every need, assisting with everything from on-site ski rental to arranging for ski instructors and special events in the Riffelalp chapel.
Originally built by Zermatt’s pioneering hotelier Alexander Seiler and opened in 1884, it was known as the Riffelalp Grand Hotel. A fire destroyed the original historic building in 1961, and was rebuilt connecting the two annexes and opened as it is today in 1988. The interior is decorated with old wood and warm colors, giving the feeling of an oversized mountain chalet, complete with heated outdoor swimming pool, spa and 3 restaurants.
SPA & WELLNESS: “St. Trop-Alp” Europe’s highest wellness center includes an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and saline grotto, as well as a full range of massage treatments are available.
RESTAURANTS AND BAR: “Restaurant Alexandre” serves Inspired French haute cuisine. Walliser-Keller: Regional cuisine from the open fire, fondue, raclette and meat dishes cooked on a hot stone. “Al Bosco” serves casual Italian and pizzas. Vinothek: wine bar and tasting room.
LOCATION: Gornergrat Plateau, 600 meters above Zermatt, accessed only by hiking trails, ski pistes or cog railway (20 minutes from Zermatt).
