MOUNTAIN BIKE OVERVIEW

The Alps are a Mecca of Mountain Bike Opportunities

A guided MTB trip to the Swiss Alps is a life-changing experience that every rider deserves.

With extensive trail systems manicured from centuries’ worth of foot traffic, the Alps have transitioned well to the growth of mountain biking, and have become a mecca of sorts for every type of riding style. Endless options throughout the Swiss Alps allow for major exploration – and we have done the legwork for the past 15 years, identifying the best stretches of singletrack, the tackiest dirt, and the flowiest trails. What that means is that your Epic Europe Swiss MTB guides have developed a network of trails ideal for every type of rider and every type of ride.

In terms of lift access for mountain biking, the Alps are king. An infrastructure of hundreds of lifts link 50-100 miles of singletrack together for a day’s ride, meaning that riders need never repeat a trail or have to pedal uphill - unless you want to. Mountain refuges and cafés offering gourmet meals and cold beer wait at the bottom of every run. End the day in luxurious accommodations where riders prepare for a hearty dinner and the next adventure.

Some of our favorite guided MTB trips in the Alps are based in Verbier and the Rhône Valley, literally the world’s biggest bike park. Day trips to Aosta (Italy), Crans-Montana, Montreux, or dozens of secret spots that are within an hour’s drive of Verbier serve up massive descents and incredible views. Portes du Soleil is known as the “Whistler” of the Alps, with 10 resorts and dozens of ski lifts that interconnect their massive network of bike trails. Zermatt is also a fantastic base for family biking, as well as some of the longest descents in the Alps courtesy of the Gornergrat train and the Rothorn tram. Gstaad and the surrounding Saanenland are a XC riders’ paradise, with rolling terrain and gorgeous views. And the Engadin / St. Moritz region has a bit of everything for all kinds of mountain bikers, but enduro is their strength.

Whatever your style and biking passion, the Swiss Alps (and surrounding regions on the Italian side of the border) have something for everyone. From high-adrenaline downhill tracks and freeride trails, to life-changing enduro singletracks, to mellow farm and forest access roads for introductory riders to discover the joys of MTB. And Epic Europe’s award-winning bike guides have all of the rides that highlight every aspect of our region.
