Skitouring has long been a way of life in the Alps, since the early days of the pioneering skiers whose only means of winter transportation was to climb what they would ultimately ski down. Using “seal skins” attached to the bottom of their long, wooden skis, they were the first to truly realize the vast potential of this Alpine landscape as a resource for recreation, sport, and discovery.
Now, with vastly improved equipment, from everyday powder skis and alpine-style touring boots, to race-light gear, the world of skitouring is open to nearly every age and ability.
